How We Came About
Every person has a turning point. The point at which he realizes he's been living a life that is suboptimal and decides it is time to make a change. This change could mean many things, but in our case, it meant taking control of our respective healths which turned out to be taking control of our lives.
Having fought our respective battles against diseases and unfit lives, we were both experiencing our turning points in our own ways when a meeting by chance brought in some much-needed direction to our journey. We now had something to work towards and decided to take our fitness adventures a step further.
For the next 24 months, we decided to try, between us, every approach there is to nutrition and fitness and to learn from the best. We put ourselves through innumerable dietary approaches like low fat, low carb, paleo, zero carb, calorie restriction, ayurveda, intermittent fasting and subjected our bodies to various forms of training like distance running, powerlifting, CrossFit, bodybuilding, P90x, high intensity training, plyometrics, kettlebell training, TRX, Starting Strength and functional training.
We did all this with the following in mind - to learn about the human body, to clearly understand the conditions that promote it's optimal functioning, to compare our findings with mainstream advice that most of us tend to follow and to customise our solutions such that they are practical and sustainable for the typical Indian who experiences little to no results from Western approaches.
So we spent a good chunk of our time trying to figure out a way to get the message across to people through our respective blogs and were successful in changing a few hundred lives. But that still didn't make the cut. We were still two young professionals living in the San Francisco Bay Area shelling out nutrition, fitness and wellness advice via the wicked web. Credibility was limited to forward thinkers and the common man remained as wishful and unhealthy as ever.
What we needed to do was obvious and one act at a time. We started to consciously transform ourselves from handsomely paid young tech professionals to passion-driven messengers preaching the truth behind health and fitness. We threw out our shoes and started caring about our gait. Our fancy cars sat in our driveways while our feet carried us distances. A thank you email from a reader added more fuel to the fire and pay raises weren't something to write home about anymore. Training twice a day and nutritional research at night became a norm while dinner and drinks with colleagues started to seem trivial, unnecessary and almost sinful. Life changed.
Slowly but steadily, our passion to help elucidate the truth about health and fitness grew by the day and our will to see people take charge of their lives and change themselves for the better started taking over us.
So we asked ourselves some questions - What are we trying to do here? How much help can we actually be of to people? Can we change people lives through health and fitness? Can we be that turning point? We decided to find out. We ended the guesswork. We quit our lives abroad. We sold our goods. We convinced our ever-supportive wives. We took the plunge. We came back to our land, to our people.
We said we'd make them look beyond flashy gym equipment and mundane diet charts. We said we'd give them sustainable health. We said we'd make them fall in love with fitness. We said we'd take them on a journey that will teach them so much more about themselves. We said we'd redefine fitness. We said we'd bring to our people The Quad.
From that very moment to this, we live and breathe fitness and that is not about to change anytime in the next 100 years.
What we found was a huge disconnect. What was prescribed, didn't work. What worked, wasn't prescribed. And what worked for one didn't work for another.- The Quad
